About the Project

The Museum of London has over 100 photographs of (and around) the Grand Surrey Canal, which originally ran from Rotherhithe to Camberwell, taken in the 1920s and pasted into a Port of London Authority notebook. The museum is very keen to learn more about these photographs.

For this research project the museum has decided to use this website to help selected volunteer researchers to enter the new data. This approach is often known as crowd sourcing.

The museum is currently working with the Rotherhithe and Bermondsey Local History Society on this project, but if you have information that you would like to add, please get in touch.
